- Gary Neville believes Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are the two best managers of their generation.
- Both have had success at club level.
- He thinks the FA should appoint a British coach to manage the national team.
Former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville believes Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are the best managers of their generation but are not the right people to manage the England national team.
“I think the FA (Football Association) will be right about that (appointing an English coach) and the fact that appointing a foreign coach would be the wrong decision,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“You can’t look past Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola. They are the most exciting managers we’ve had in the Premier League in the last 10 or 12 years. But there’s something in my mind when we went through the Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello eras where there were top foreign managers coming into the England team.
“If we don’t develop our own players in our own leagues and we don’t develop our own coaches or we don’t try to develop our managerial talent internationally, it’s going to be difficult to have English managers at the top ยูฟ่าเบท level like other countries in the world because I think we have good coaches who just need a chance.”
“We have to work hard to develop English coaches. That means putting them in the toughest environments and coaching in the biggest games because that’s the ultimate experience. So I think we should stick with English coaches.”
